Meet Matt Texeira, Head of Talent Acquisition at Komodo Health and a founding member of our AI Council. With a background in human capital consulting and a strong commitment to our mission, Matt is helping shape how Komodo navigates the evolving intersection of people, technology, and artificial intelligence.
At Komodo Health, our people are the engine behind every breakthrough. In this edition of “Meet a Dragon,” we’re spotlighting someone who sits at the very crossroads of people and technology: Matt Texeira, our Head of Talent Acquisition and a founding member of our AI Council.
Matt’s story isn’t just about recruiting top talent; it’s about reshaping how people and AI work together to power Komodo Health’s mission of reducing the burden of disease. With a deeply personal connection to healthcare and a bold view on the future of work, Matt brings a perspective that might just surprise you.
From Consulting to a Mission That Hits Home
Matt didn’t stumble into healthcare technology; he ran toward it. After beginning his career in human capital consulting, he realized he wanted to make a greater impact in the area of healthcare. This desire became crystal clear during the pandemic.
“My wife was working as an ICU nurse at the time, and I saw firsthand how broken parts of the healthcare system were. Having lost both of my parents to cancer, the mission to reduce the burden of disease is deeply personal to me.”
This perspective drives how Matt builds teams at Komodo, finding people who are just as aligned with the mission to power such meaningful work.
Turning Fear of AI Into Fuel
When AI started dominating conversations, Matt could have seen it as a threat. After all, talent acquisition was one of the functions that people assumed AI would replace. Instead, he decided to use it as an opportunity for growth.
“I chose to harness my fear as an opportunity to become curious and learn everything I could about AI and how it could enhance my work, not replace it,” he said.
This curiosity led him to help found Komodo Health’s AI Council, now a cross-functional group with more than 30 members. The council focuses on building fluency, evaluating tools, and sharing best practices to embed AI into the fabric of how Komodo works.
Why Non-Technical Leaders Belong at the AI Table
Matt’s leadership is living proof that AI isn’t just for engineers and software developers.
“You no longer need to be a developer to build software,” Matt said. “AI is democratizing access to tools and capabilities that used to be exclusive to technical teams, and that’s a huge deal for workforce and talent planning.”
In Talent Acquisition alone, the results speak for themselves. By streamlining time-intensive steps like reviewing resumes and drafting job descriptions, AI has radically improved the team’s efficiency. This year, the team turned 50,000 applicants into 200-plus hires by freeing up time for high-priority, strategic work. This efficiency has enabled recruiters to handle more searches and make an average of two to three more hires per month than last year. The added capacity has also allowed the team to improve both the candidate experience and the support it provides to hiring managers.
At Komodo, every Dragon is expected to work smarter and move faster, and using AI isn’t optional.
The Secret to AI Adoption: Show, Don’t Tell
Matt has found that demos are the secret to rolling out AI tools. He explains that, when people can see what’s possible, a light bulb goes on. The company has also been intentional about keeping the AI Council cross-functional, which ensures that ideas and best practices aren’t trapped in one part of the organization.
“When people see AI in action — whether it’s rewriting a job description in seconds or building an interview kit — it clicks. Suddenly, it’s not theory, it’s possibility.”
This approach ensures that wins in one team ripple across the business, whether it’s Talent Acquisition, Product, or Engineering.
The Future: Faster, Smarter, More Human
Healthcare is notorious for slow progress. But Matt believes AI is breaking that mold.
“The right AI tools can unlock value almost immediately and put smarter insights into the hands of the people who need them most,” he said.
He is proud that Komodo’s approach to AI has been both ambitious and grounded, with clear executive support and a focus on continuous enablement to ensure tools that deliver results. In his words, “Being AI-first only works if we’re people-first. Our goal is to give every Dragon the skills and confidence to use AI in ways that make their work more impactful.”
Culture Check: Energized. Curious. Responsible.
That’s how Matt sums up Komodo’s culture around AI today. Excitement is high, but so is intentionality. The company isn’t chasing hype, it’s building fluency, experimenting with purpose, and creating space for everyone to learn at their own pace.
Matt’s journey shows that being a Dragon at the forefront of AI doesn’t mean you need to be an engineer. It means being bold enough to ask, “How can this make me better?”
