Meet a Dragon: Rohit Mishra

by Komodo Health

Meet Rohit Mishra, Head of Product Operations at Komodo Health. Rohit shares how his background in engineering and operations led him to healthcare, why being data-driven is core to his role, and his passion for mentoring the next generation of tech professionals.

Tell me about how your background in engineering and operations led you to healthcare.

I came to the United States to pursue my master’s in engineering and operations research at the University of Houston, and after graduating, I started my career in the oil and gas industry. While I gained valuable experience, I knew I wanted to work in a field where I could make a more meaningful impact on people’s lives.

I got my first brush with healthcare when I was working at a company leading technical projects for a contractor that was fixing logistics for Veterans Affairs hospitals. I oversaw a team of product engineers who were building a solution to track and reduce waste for medications that were sitting on shelves unused. That experience opened my eyes to the real-world impact that technology can have in healthcare. From then on, I knew this was the industry I wanted to be in.

You’ve been with Komodo for six years — what initially attracted you to the company?

I was originally introduced to the Komodo team in 2019. During my interview process, I spoke to a lot of people, from program managers to product leaders to engineering leadership, and what stood out most to me was how intelligent and thoughtful everyone was. I was struck by the caliber of the team and knew immediately that it was the kind of culture I wanted to be a part of.

That high bar for talent has remained one of Komodo’s defining qualities. It’s been amazing to see the company grow from around 200 Dragons when I joined to nearly 800 today while still maintaining the same commitment to excellence.

Tell me more about your role as Head of Product Operations.

Our focus is to drive operational excellence across the product organization by putting in place the systems, processes, and discipline needed to support end-to-end product development. We make sure strategy, execution, and outcomes stay tightly aligned.

My team works closely with the Product Management, Engineering, and Go-to-Market teams to enable scalable planning, improve cross-functional collaboration, and create visibility into progress and impact. We also own and evolve the frameworks for product planning, roadmapping, metrics, and post-launch reviews.

A core part of our work is keeping the customer at the center. Komodo’s platform is full stack and often complex, so it’s critical that we prioritize capabilities based on real customer needs and clear market signals. Our goal is to deliver solutions that create meaningful value in healthcare.

What is your favorite part of your role?

My favorite part, though also the most challenging, is connecting the right problem to the right people and the right systems. In a fast-paced environment like ours, there’s always a range of challenges to solve, and it’s not just about launching new products and features; it’s about ensuring they land well, drive impact, and create long-term value across the board.

Product Operations is the glue. I take time to understand the technology, find the gaps, and set up systems that solve real problems. I bring the right people together, both technical and non-technical, so we can move quickly and get to outcomes.

You lead a big team. What traits do you think are most important in a leader?

As a leader, I believe in building a culture around transparent communication so that my team feels empowered to make informed decisions.

At Komodo, we move fast and work on complex problems, so my goal is always to make sure everyone on my team has the information they need to do their best work and knows exactly what’s expected of them.

How has your background in engineering helped you succeed at Komodo? What advice would you give to early-career engineers?

My engineering background has always kept me grounded in data, which has been instrumental to my success at Komodo. To succeed here, you need a deep understanding of how our data works (both Life Sciences and our own internal operating data), from how it powers our platform to how it fuels the insights that drive real change across the healthcare ecosystem.

For early-career tech professionals — both engineering and product — my biggest advice: Don’t just complete the task in front of you. Go beyond to understand the “why” behind it. That context will help you think more strategically, solve problems more effectively, and become a more valuable collaborator to every team you work with.

What’s your favorite part about working at Komodo?

The people. I’ve worked with some of the most brilliant, thoughtful, and mission-driven colleagues here, and being around that kind of talent and energy pushes me to do my best work every day.

Beyond that, I’m incredibly proud of the mission. We’re taking on a challenge that few companies are even attempting: reducing the global burden of disease. We get to approach that from so many different angles, and it’s inspiring to be part of a team that’s committed to solving real problems with innovative solutions.

I know you’re passionate about mentoring. Can you tell me more about that?

As an immigrant, I know how valuable it is to have mentors who understand your journey and can help you navigate challenges throughout your career. It’s very important to me to be a resource for others, especially young professionals who are just starting in their careers, and to give back to the product engineering community.

Do you have any hobbies you’d like to share?

Outside of work, I enjoy cooking with my daughter. One of our favorite dishes to make together is egg biryani. We are also big soccer fans!
