Komodo Health Citation and Attribution Guidelines
Researchers, partners, and collaborators frequently reference Komodo data and publications in scientific, clinical, and industry communications. This guide outlines how to appropriately reference Komodo Health in external materials. It covers two distinct scenarios:
- How to describe and cite Komodo data sources in research and analyses
- How to cite publications authored by Komodo Health or based on Komodo data
Referencing Komodo Data in Research and Analyses
Insights derived from Komodo Health’s products can be cited and referenced in several ways for peer-reviewed abstracts, media publications, and more. Please refer to the following general guidelines.
Note that publications must not include payer or plan names and must comply with the CMS small cell suppression rule, unless prior written consent is provided by Komodo Health.
Informal citations and references:
Komodo should be referenced as:
- “Komodo Health®” and/or
- “The Komodo Healthcare Map®” and/or
- “Komodo’s Healthcare Map®”
- “The Komodo Healthcare Map®, which is derived primarily from claims data.”
Additionally:
- Komodo should always be referred to as Komodo Health® in the first instance; thereafter, the company may be referred to as Komodo. Abbreviations such as “KH” should not be used.
- Komodo’s Healthcare Map® should always be referred to as Komodo’s Healthcare Map® or the Komodo Healthcare Map® in the first instance; thereafter, it may be referred to as the Healthcare Map. Abbreviations such as “KHM” should not be used.
- When using the word “claims,” do not refer to Komodo Data as “raw claims” or “raw” data.
Describing Komodo Data Sources in Research
For descriptions for referencing Komodo’s data products or software solutions (e.g., in publications/abstracts), we recommend specifying both:
- Komodo’s Healthcare Map® (this is what our products are derived from)
- All specific data products and/or the software solution used in the analyses (how the dataset is presented)
Example:
- …“We conducted a retrospective analysis with Komodo Research Dataset, a data schema designed for RWE and HEOR studies enriched with Komodo-populated imputed allowed amounts and derived from Komodo’s Healthcare Map®. The Healthcare Map is a database of de-identified, real-world patient data, representing the individual healthcare experiences of more than 330 million de-identified U.S. patients.” or
- …”Komodo’s Patient-Level Analytics and Insights Derivative is an optimized data schema designed for Life Science analytics and derived from the Komodo Healthcare Map®. The Healthcare Map aggregates de-identified real-world data characterizing patient health status and health service utilization between 2015 and 2025 for a U.S. insured population of an estimated 330+ million lives.”
Please use the following examples for the Komodo Healthcare Map®:

When possible, please use the following specific language guidance for each Komodo data product/software solution:
Patient-Level Analytics and Insights Derivative (PLAID):

Komodo Encounters:
